Heat pumps can be a great alternative to traditional air conditioners. Like an AC, they can be paired with a forced-air furnace or air handler. Heat pumps look a lot like traditional air conditioning units but they work a bit differently.
Like a traditional air conditioner, they use the refrigeration cycle to provide cool air in your home. However, these units can use the refrigeration cycle to provide heat as well. To simplify it, they basically run in reverse. The refrigeration cycle allows the heat pump or AC to absorb heat and move it from one area to another. On cooling mode, the unit absorbs the heat from inside your home and releases it outside. On heating mode, it finds heat in the ambient outdoor air and moves it inside to heat your home. While that might not seem like something that can work in our harsh, Wisconsin winters, heat pumps use technology that allow them to work in subzero temperatures.
On heating mode, heat pumps are more efficient than electric and gas-fired furnaces. This is because they don’t have to “create” heat but rather move it from one area to another. Many people who use heat pumps chose them for this reason. Higher energy efficiency means lower operating costs.
Important note for heat pump installations: if you plan to rely on your heat pump for home heating, you must choose a unit that is rated for low temperatures. There are many varieties of heat pumps. The ones that work great in Florida do not work well here. We can use heat pumps efficiently in Wisconsin but you have to have the right one!

Inspected hot and cold water supply valves and flexible supply lines behind appliance, confirming proper water flow and pressure from both sources. Verified drain line functionality with no blockages or drainage issues detected. Based on diagnostic findings showing all plumbing connections operating correctly, determined issue to be appliance-related rather than plumbing system failure and advised customer to contact washing machine manufacturer for further troubleshooting.

Responded to clogged kitchen sink with drainage issues affecting the dishwasher drain line, which was causing water leakage. Successfully snaked the kitchen sink drain line to clear the blockage and restore proper drainage function to both the sink and dishwasher connection.
Responded to leaking Roman tub faucet with no accessible shut-off valve. Implemented temporary repair using vise grip and bungee cord to control water flow, as shutting off main water supply to entire home was the only alternative. Customer planning tub removal for upcoming remodel and declined line capping service. Provided estimate for kitchen plumbing finish work in renovation area.
Replaced damaged condenser grille and top cover on Lennox outdoor AC unit. Removed bent components and installed new grille and top cover, ensuring proper alignment and secure fitment. Unit restored to proper operational condition with all connections verified and system tested for normal function.
Responded to multiple water leak issues throughout the residence. Diagnosed and provided estimate for replacement of leaking laundry room shut-off valve, which showed significant corrosion and active leaking behind the washing machine. Assessed master bathroom cold water faucet leak and determined cartridge replacement necessary; provided estimate for installation of customer-supplied faucet fixture. Responded to a clogged shower drain in a walk-in shower that was recently converted from a tub installation. Upon inspection, identified a solid obstruction lodged in the 2-inch P-trap located close to the drain opening. Attempted to clear the blockage using standard augering techniques and a blow bag, but the obstruction proved too solid to dislodge with conventional methods. The blockage appears to be a hard foreign object rather than typical organic debris, and its location in the P-trap prevents passage of clearing equipment. Documented the condition with photographs and advised that the issue may be related to the recent shower remodel and recommended contacting the installing contractor to address the obstruction, as it may require trap removal or replacement to resolve.
Completed furnace maintenance inspection on 8-month-old Lennox system as scheduled annual HVAC maintenance included with membership. Due to outdoor temperature of 31 degrees, service was converted from cooling tune-up to heating system inspection. Performed comprehensive furnace maintenance including filter inspection and system operational check. Identified non-functional humidifier during inspection. Recommended and completed humidifier replacement with upgraded unit to restore proper humidity control functionality to the system.
Responded to no heat call on Lennox XCB-5 series boiler with radiant heating system. Upon inspection, found boiler cycling through operation but failing to ignite. Diagnosed faulty pressure switch that was not closing properly. Temporarily restored operation by tapping pressure switch to unstick mechanism, allowing boiler to ignite and resume normal heating cycle. Drained waterlogged expansion tank and verified system pressure within acceptable range. Recommended pressure switch replacement as current unit is likely to stick again during future cycles. Proper replacement part to be ordered and installed on follow-up visit. Boiler currently operational and providing heat. Also noted significant sediment accumulation in water heater during inspection and recommended future replacement consideration.
Responded to warranty call for loud noise from Bradford White water heater audible throughout home. Diagnosed vibration originating from unsecured PVC venting in finished soffit rather than blower motor assembly. Verified blower motor operation within normal parameters. Homeowner declined recommendation to open soffit for proper venting securement. Documented existing conditions with photos showing water heater installation, venting configuration, and surrounding mechanical systems.
Responded to no heat call on 10-year-old York furnace that was blowing cold air and failing to reach setpoint. Yellow flashing LED indicated dirty flame sensor condition. Upon inspection, found inducer assembly completely filled with water due to plugged condensate drain line. Cleared blockage from drain line and removed standing water from inducer housing. Cycled system through complete heating operation to verify proper function. Performed visual inspection of heat exchanger for signs of deterioration or failure—no issues found. All system components now operating within normal parameters with proper condensate drainage restored. Enrolled customer in preventative maintenance plan to avoid future service issues.

Recommended water treatment system installation due to visible mineral staining and discoloration observed in basin, indicating hard water conditions that may affect plumbing fixtures and appliances long-term.
Attempted to perform comprehensive plumbing inspection as part of coordinated HVAC, plumbing, and electrical final rough-in assessment. Inspection could not be completed due to absence of electrical power in the residence and lack of available water supply from the well system. Visual documentation was captured of accessible plumbing fixtures including shower valve assembly with mounted accessories and under-sink drain configuration with P-trap and supply lines. Inspection to be rescheduled once power is restored and premises are prepared for final assessment.
