Annual Generator Tune-Up Checklist
- Visual Inspection: Check for corrosion or damage, loose wiring, and inspect fuel lines, exhaust, and enclosure (including weatherproofing/rodent protection).
- Engine Maintenance: Change oil and oil filter; replace/clean air filter; replace spark plugs if worn; inspect belts and hoses.
- Electrical System: Test battery voltage and load; clean terminals; tighten electrical connections; verify control panel operation and update firmware if needed.
- Fuel System: Verify supply (natural gas or propane); inspect regulators, valves, and piping for leaks or damage.
- Operational Testing: Perform manual start/run; test automatic transfer switch; simulate a power outage to confirm switchover and load handling; listen for abnormal noises/vibrations.
- Final Steps & Documentation: Reset maintenance reminders; document findings; provide repair recommendations.
