FAQs
Our new customers often have questions about furnace repair and furnace replacement in Mound. Here are answers to two of the most common questions.
What Is AFUE and Why Does It Matter?
AFUE stands for annual fuel utilization efficiency. It’s how we measure furnace efficiency. An 80 AFUE furnace successfully converts 80% of the fuel it burns into home heating, and the other 20% is waste. The higher the AFUE, the less fuel the system burns and the less it costs to run.
What’s the Difference Between a Standard and High-Efficiency Furnace?
Standard gas furnaces have an 80 AFUE rating, and high-efficiency gas furnaces have at least a 90 AFUE rating. Traditional furnaces lose heat energy through the process of venting toxic gases. High-efficiency or condensing furnaces have a second heat exchanger to mitigate that loss. Some also have a modulating gas valve that gives finer control over the fuel supply.
How Often Should I Service My Furnace?
Our experts recommend scheduling annual maintenance for your home heating in Mound. The best time to schedule service is early fall, before the colder weather arrives and you need to run your heat. You should also monitor for comfort and performance issues throughout the winter and call us at the first signs of trouble. Signs can include increasing energy usage, uneven heating, irregular cycling, and unexplained CO detector alarms.
