FAQs
Here are some questions we often get about our water-heater-related Excelsior plumbing services.
Why Does It Take So Long to Get Hot Water?
If a sudden long hot water delay occurs, it may be due to limescale or corrosion obstructing your plumbing. If it’s a consistent problem, it’s often because the fixture is far from the water heater. One solution is to install a recirculating pump that delivers hot water faster. Another option is a point-of-use water heater at key fixtures like your kitchen or bathroom.
Can You Move My Water Heater?
Yes, water heater relocation is a service we provide for customers throughout Excelsior. For example, we can move a water heater from your garage to a more protected location in your home. This requires extending your hot and cold water lines to the new location. If relocating to an unconditioned space, we recommend adding extra insulation such as a tank jacket.
Should I Purchase a Fuel-Burning or Electric Water Heater?
Both options are viable. Generally, electric water heaters are less expensive to purchase and install but may cost more to run. Gas water heaters are usually cheaper to operate but require proper venting. Heat pump water heaters are another option — they cost more upfront but can be less expensive long term. Electric units also have the advantage of producing no on-site emissions, while gas units require venting for carbon monoxide and other gases.
