FAQs for Furnace Services
The more you understand your furnace and know what to do when worrisome situations arise, the better it can be for your home, wallet, safety, and comfort. These are some questions Coon Rapids residents often ask our team members about the appliance.
What Should I Do if There’s a Burning Smell Coming From My Furnace?
Turn off your heat immediately if a burning smell is emanating from the appliance. This is typically a sign of an electrical issue. Continuing to run the heat could worsen the problem or, even worse, cause a fire. Call us immediately if you find yourself facing this situation.
What Could Cause My Furnace to Short Cycle?
Your furnace could be short cycling for several reasons. One of the key causes is typically a dirty air filter. To see if this could be the issue, simply swap out the dirty filter for a clean one of the same size. Make sure it’s situated correctly, and then turn on the heat. Leave it on for about 10 to 15 minutes, which is the typical length of a standard heat cycle. If it doesn’t short cycle during that time, the dirty filter was likely the problem, but you should still pay attention to any short cycling that happens again.
How Often Do I Need to Change the Filter?
You should change the air filter every one to three months. However, if you smoke indoors, have allergies, and/or have furry pets, it’s best to change it monthly. Doing it more often can help keep your furnace running optimally and your household members enjoying cleaner air quality.
