Hurlburt’s plumbing services
We service all aspects of residential home plumbing. We can handle everything from simple drain cleanings to complete plumbing remodels and overhauls.
Drain cleaning
Blocked drains are one of the most common problems we see in the field. Most of the time they are a fairly easy fix but some clogs can get tricky and require specialized equipment. While we certainly don’t mind coming out to your house for a call, there are a couple of things you can do to avoid blocked drains.
- Use a screen in the shower to catch hair
- Avoid soap containing animal fat
- Use a strainer in the sink while washing dishes
- Run hot water after brushing your teeth to wash down toothpaste

Should you flush your water heater?
If you have a water heater with a tank, you might have heard that you need to flush it. Flushing your water heater will help to remove the buildup of sediment that settles at the bottom of the tank. This sediment can cause the bottom of the tank to corrode and eventually crack and leak. Unfortunately, we can’t repair water heater tanks when they crack on the bottom.
There’s just one problem with flushing a water heater. Most homeowners don’t flush their water heater at all. If you haven’t flushed your water heater in a while, we might recommend that you don’t do it at all! This has to do with the buildup of sediment at the bottom of the tank. If it has been sitting for a long time (years), removing it now might cause abrasions in the tank and spring a leak. You might also find you have a leaking valve if you turn it on after all these years too! In that case, we might just tell you to leave it alone. While your water heater will have a reduced lifespan from the corrosion inside, flushing the tank on an old heater that has never been maintained could be the end of it.
